This is a teaching laboratory for studying heat exchange and heat transport by conduction, convection and radiation.
Lab Equipment and Uses
Lab instrumentation has been selected from TecQuipment, a designer of thermal/fluids devices for use in higher education. Students study the three modes of heat transfer - conduction, convection and radiation - by working in teams and conducting hands-on experiments. Examples of workstations include heat exchangers that allow the study of turbulent flow and cross flow. Updated radiation equipment enables students to measure black body radiation, emissivity and radiation view factors.
In addition to being the main work area for Heat Transfer Laboratory (ME 326), this facility also serves students enrolled in Mechanical Design Laboratory (ME 384) and Senior Projects I and II (ME 391 and 392) and is available for other research and project needs.
